RC (Bob) Kirkpatrick started Hawkesbury Valley Bus Service in June 1958, when he took over NK Lakeman-Fidler's Windsor to Maraylya and Riverstone to Maraylya services, operating as Route 216. Some vehicles began to display signage for Hawkesbury Valley Bus & Coach Service when semi coaches were purchased. R & P Clarkson's route and school services from Windsor - Maroota - Wisemans Ferry (Route 218) were added to the company in February 1984. Most vehicles carried dual signage for Clarkson's Bus Service & Hawkesbury Valley Bus Service after being repainted out of the Clarkson's livery of white with red stripes into Hawkesbury's two-tone blue livery.
The Calabro family purchased Hawkesbury Valley Coaches from the Kirkpatrick family on 2 November 1990 with a fleet of Leyland Super Vikings, Leyland Leopards, Leyland Tigers, Mercedes-Benz OC1617s and several minibuses. During 1994 a Hawkesbury Valley vehicle was hired to QANTAS for the operation of the Domestic Terminal - International Terminal shuttle to supplement the 2 Clipper Tours vehicles on this operation. The Hawkesbury Valley vehicle in use (usually one of the airconditioned CC bodied Tigers) retained the Hawkesbury Valley fleet livery, but carried large QANTAS stickers. Following cessation of the shuttle in January 1995, three Hawkesbury Valley vehicles were in use on the shuttle. This arrangement ended mid-1995 when QANTAS took delivery of their own buses to operate the service.
After 23 years of operation under the Calabro family's ownership, Hawkesbury Valley Buses ceased operating bus services in Sydney MBSC Region 1 on Saturday October 5th 2013, after which Busways took over operation of all Region 1 services from Hawkesbury Valley & Westbus (CDC) on Sunday October 6th 2013. The two contract buses (Bustech VST) passed to Busways and all other vehicles retained.
Hawkesbury Valley remains as a charter operator. Refer to current fleet list.
The Calabro family also operate Busabout, Hoxton Park and Wagga Wagga NSW (former Fearne's operations). A separate branch of the Calabro family owns the Transit Australia Group (TAG) in Queensland, which includes operators Surfside, Sunbus and Gold Coast bus manufacturer, Bustech.
